PIT STOP is a film directed by Mikail Ekiz and Produced by Madeleine Arana. It is a stop-motion, 3D and experimental hybrid film which took a year to make. The plot revolves around our main character the clerk: who has a magic 8 ball for a head; living in constant anxiety about the fact that he's got all of life's answers in the back of his head. He works the night shifts at a gas station convenience store.
Animated Shots
Listed below are some of the shots that were animated by me.
Stop motion Shots
Experimental Shots
Both of these shots really revolved around the gross hands of our trucker. I really had to get into this guys mind and think to myself: "What would I do if I had these nasty hands and I was a large, hairy, trucker man waiting at the counter?"
3D Shots
For the experimental shots I set out to create things that were interesting and that gave off that uncanny valley feeling that we were going for in the film. Whether that be walking around and filming in an actual gas station store or cracking open a real magic 8 ball. (Hopefully I am not cursed after doing so.)
For the 3D animated arms reaching out we decided to use stepped animation to make the arms look that much creepier. The hands gave off a strange feeling when they were stepped and it just felt like it fit the tone very well. I had to be very mindful when animating these hands since they all needed to be seamlessly integrated into the stop motion set.
Fabrication work
Pictured below are some of the items that I helped to create to "stock" our convenience store.
